Eucharistic Adoration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament began several years ago in the main church at St. Timothy's starting on the first Friday of each month and continuing until Mass the next morning. In early 1993, Fr. Mark Juettner asked the parishioners of St. Timothy for a special commitment to help build a dedicated Adoration Chapel. During the Holy Week of 1994, Tuesdays were added to First Friday/Saturdays and in the Fall of 1994 construction of the new Adoration Chapel was completed and was dedicated by Archbishop Harry Flynn in November of that same year.
On February 28, 1999, Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration began and has continued ever since: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is enabled by people committing to pray in the Chapel for one hour each week.
Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said, "The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night when He went into His agony. But as often in the history of the church since that time, evil was awake, but the disciples were asleep. That is why there came out of His anguished and lonely Heart a sigh: 'Could you not watch one hour with Me?' (Mt 26:40) Not for an hour of activity did he plead, but for an hour of friendship."
From its beginning, our parish, families, and our community have benefited in countless ways as a result of Eucharistic Adoration. One can see this in the many testimonials of "Prayers Being Answered." An hour with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is a perfect way to calm nerves, to relieve anxieties, to discern family difficulties, and to show one's love and gratitude by spending time with the One who is love.
